Yes, the ever classy J.Lo was arrested and has a mugshot where she looks so incredibly high she is practically touching God's toes. (Remember when Anna wouldn't let Rihanna get a cover because of leaked nudes?) Contradictory much?
Now I would like to jump to the point of her being on the SHAPE issue:
Disclaimer: This is a jab at Anna Wintour
While virtually every woman has, had or will have cellulite at some point in her life, not every woman gets the opportunity to be photoshopped and have her flaws erased for the whole world to see. As much as I don't think Jennifer is a worthy cover girl, I do think that she looks excellent for a woman who has two small children and is approaching middle age. I am pretty sure Anna and her cronies would never let the real and untouched body of Jennifer Lopez grace their pages. Why? because Vogue is out to promote unhealthy and unrealistic standards of what a woman should look like and that my friends is disgusting. Jennifer should be proud of her body and her imperfections and for a woman that sings a song called "I'm Real" she should have taken a stance and said no to over retouching and showed that we can still be beautiful flaws and all. Clearly that isn't the case on either side. I though Vogue was changing for the better this year with the incredible Meryl Streep and Adele as cover girls. I thought the dynamic of beauty was becoming broader but yeah guess not.
Now my issue with the cover is that Jennifer looks mean, manly, typical and her hair looks like it could use a good scrub a dub dub. And the ocean backdrop...Again? Ooh J.Lo is Latina so we obviously have to put her in red because that's MUY CALIENTE! (say this whole line in a WASPY, Vogue voice for the full experience) The Bottega Veneta Spring 2012 gown is gorgeous but typical and they could have gone a whole different way with this cover. Plus, it's so 90's looking. I guess Anna Wintour is holding on to the days where she was actually relevant and innovative.
There are so many worthy, beautiful and real women that have yet to be on the cover of Vogue and should be: Zooey Deschanel (pretty please?), Sofia Vergara, Katy Perry just to name a few and I think it's time for Anna to give up her hard-on for Victoria Beckham and give the successful designer a freakin' cover already!!
What do you guys think of the April 2012 cover? Who do you think is worthy of a coveted US Vogue cover?

I agree that Vogue could have easily found someone more interesting and with substance to put on the cover! Its really too bad on their part because they may lose some loyal readers because of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for following my blog, I really appreicate your support. Following you on blog lovin' <3

I am so glad you agree! I was always a loyal Vogue reader, even though the content has become less and less appealing but I feel like this cover is an all new low and I am not sure if I will even purchase it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and sharing your feedback!

I totally agree, Anna Wintour is constantly contradicting herself and her logic is outdated. I was so surprised to see Adele last month on the cover but when I realized how heavily airbrushed the photo had been it kinda annoyed me.
ReplyDeleteThe whole magazine industry isn't concerned about whether its subscribers are satisfied or not. They make 70%+ of their money from advertisers, so they're concern is pleasing their advertisers with product placements and whatnot, they have little interest in appealing to people like you and I.
btw this post made me lol

Couldn't have said it better myself Iqra! I agree about Adele being photoshopped. The logic behind Vogue is "sure we will put regular sized women on the cover, but we won't leave them in their natural state. We will make them skinnier. Kind of like a cartoon version of themselves."
DeleteAnd yes it's all about advertising for these magazines, you are right and that is exactly why no one is buying them anymore. That's why blogging is taking over that arena.
I am glad it made you lol!

Hi Krissie!!!!
ReplyDeleteI posted my photos from the Ippolita event. She is so amazing!!! She wore a fabulous black feather boa wrapped in her hair. It looked so chic and cool!!!! I bought a beautiful bracelet from her latest collection- I posted a photo. It was such an honor to meet her.
Looking forward to your next outfit post!!! :-)

So lucky! I want to check the photo out!
DeleteI usually get upset when Jennifer Aniston is on the cover. They never get tired of Jennifer(s)?
ReplyDeleteWhy soo much hate, dear? J.Lo isn´t the only woman who gets photoshopped whenever she graces the cover. In fact, everyone does. Have you read about Cindy Crawford? She said she wished she looks like Cindy Crawford! That´s because she too looks so perfect on the cover, thanks to photoshop.
ReplyDeleteNow I love both women. And whatever personal issues the celebs have, or whatever issues you have against J.Lo, I think that as bloggers, we have the responsibility to present to our readers more objective criticisms.
